Welcome to the MAVS!
The MAVS Basketball Club is a competitive youth basketball program for 3rd through 8th grade boys located in Encinitas, California. The program is led by Coach Arvid Kramer, a former NBA and European basketball player/manager and Former coach and La Costa Canyon High School and Mira Costa College. A large percentage of MAVS players have gone on to play junior varsity and varsity high school basketball at schools such as La Costa Canyon, San Dieguito Academy, Canyon Crest, Carlsbad High, Sage Creek High, Tri City Christian, Santa Fe Christian, and others. We are also proud that some of our players have gone on to successful Division 1 and 2 college careers.
Multi-sport players are welcome! We do our best to accommodate every player’s busy schedule.
Our philosophy is simple:
Every young player deserves to enjoy their passion.

The MAVS Basketball Club is well known for our personal touch. All teams are primarily coached by Coach Kramer. He also runs most of the practices, so he gets to know the students quite well.
Since 2006 approximately 225 young men and women have participated in the program. A majority of our players are with the club for 4 or more years.
There is a place for every player in the MAVS organization. We don’t cut players. In order to provide each player with the best possible experience, a Game and Skills Assessment (Tryout) is held at the beginning of each season. We provide two participation options:
- Competitive Team Players practice twice a week and play on a team commensurate with their grade and playing level.
- Practice Players also practice twice a week, but do not play on a team due to preference or scheduling issues.
We field multiple teams at each grade level so that players of all levels have an opportunity to play. Currently we play in two different leagues – the San Diego Sol League and the Top Gun League. Games are held each weekend. We also attend tournaments in order to play against different and higher level competitors. Game locations and maps can be found here.
In practices, Coach Kramer focuses on team skills, offensive and defensive skills, and game strategy. Fundamentals are also stressed. All grades practice twice a week. Practices are held primarily at the Encinitas Boys and Girls Club on Encinitas Boulevard or at Stagecoach Park in South Carlsbad. Practice locations can be located here.
